About Music Therapy
Music Therapy is an evidence-based clinical intervention that uses music experiences to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals in addiction recovery. At Trust SoCal, our board-certified music therapists facilitate sessions that include active music-making, songwriting, lyric analysis, guided listening, and rhythmic exercises tailored to each client's therapeutic goals.
Substance use disorders often rob individuals of healthy sources of pleasure and emotional connection. Music Therapy restores these pathways by engaging the brain's reward system in a natural, non-addictive way. The rhythmic and melodic elements of music have been shown to regulate the nervous system, reduce cortisol levels, and stimulate the release of dopamine—offering a powerful, substance-free source of comfort and joy during recovery.
