About Meditation & Mindfulness
Meditation & Mindfulness practices form a powerful foundation for addiction recovery by training the mind to observe thoughts, cravings, and emotions without automatically reacting to them. At Trust SoCal, our mindfulness program draws from established protocols including Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), adapted specifically for individuals recovering from substance use disorders.
Addiction is often driven by automatic, unconscious reactions—a craving arises, and the person reaches for a substance before conscious thought intervenes. Meditation and mindfulness training interrupt this automaticity by strengthening the capacity to pause, observe, and choose a response rather than react impulsively. Over time, regular mindfulness practice physically changes brain structures associated with self-awareness, emotional regulation, and impulse control, building the neural infrastructure that supports lasting sobriety.
