About Biofeedback Therapy
Biofeedback Therapy teaches clients to recognize and regulate automatic physiological responses—heart rate, muscle tension, skin conductance, breathing patterns—that are disrupted by addiction and often trigger cravings. At Trust SoCal, our biofeedback program uses sensors that provide real-time information about these bodily processes, allowing clients to learn voluntary control over responses that typically feel automatic and uncontrollable.
Addiction activates the fight-or-flight response, creating chronic arousal, anxiety, and tension that clients have learned to self-medicate with substances. Biofeedback interrupts this cycle by making the invisible visible—clients see on a screen how their stress level changes with breathing, visualization, or muscle relaxation. Through repeated practice with real-time feedback, clients gradually learn to recognize and self-regulate these responses, reducing the physiological drive toward substance use and building the nervous system regulation essential to long-term recovery.
